Expert Witness Work
This involves providing professional psychological assessments and testimony in legal cases, offering expert insight into complex psychological issues.
I conduct over 100 assessments annually in criminal, family, and civil law cases, covering areas such as medical negligence, risk assessments, fitness to plead, psychopathy evaluations, and parenting capacity. My expertise is frequently sought to assess the impact of accidents and negligence, the motivation to offend, risk of recidivism, and culpability.
I have considerable experience working with co-defendants as well as single offenders. I have worked particularly in cases where suggestibility and compliance are key factors to violence and homicide.
Additionally, I provide guidance on court-based adaptations for vulnerable witnesses and the best ways to conduct cross-examinations given the current presentation of the witness. I assess the veracity of testimony and have taught this subject at the University of Canterbury for their MSc in Forensic Psychology. I have taught on the topic of female offenders at the Institute of Psychiatry.
My academic background includes a first-class degree in psychology, a master's in forensic psychology, and a doctorate in clinical psychology.
My forensic work also spans psychosis, neurodiversity, and complex trauma, including cases involving: narcissistic personality disorder, Dissociative presentations including Dissociative Identity Disorder, ritualistic abuse, trafficking, sexual abuse, states of consciousness, sexual offending, firesetting, acts of terrorism and physical violence and homicide.
I frequently give expert testimony in Magistrates, Crown and High Court settings, including the Old Bailey and the High Court in London. I have worked in high secure settings such as Broadmoor Hospital, as well as medium and low secure units, in addition to adult and youth offender prisons.
