Shamanic Scripting

Rewriting Your Narrative Through Ancient Wisdom

Dr Tracy King
Chartered Clinical Psychologist

Are you ready to reclaim your life and rewrite your story after experiencing trauma, loss, or deep emotional pain?

I’m inviting a limited amount of committed women to join me on a soul-searching three month online journey of holistic healing and transformation in my therapeutic healing programme:

Shamanic Scripting - Rewriting your Narrative through Ancient Wisdom.

This is a journey designed to help you break free from the emotional patterns that trauma, loss and emotional pain have left behind.

Whether you’ve been struggling with complex trauma, loss through chronic illness or accident, or you’ve been caught in people-pleasing behaviours or patterns of toxic relationships rooted in past wounds, this is your opportunity to step into your true power.

Who Is This For?

People Pleasers: Do you find yourself constantly putting others' needs ahead of your own, unable to say no, and feeling burnt out? This may stem from past trauma that made you feel unworthy or unsafe asserting yourself. This programme helps you rediscover your voice and set healthy boundaries.

Those Experiencing Loss through Chronic Illness: If you’re grieving the loss of your old life or a hoped for life, due to chronic illness, I’ll guide you through rewriting your story towards acceptance and peace despite the limitations you face.

Patterns of Toxic Relationships: These patterns are usually rooted in unresolved trauma, unconscious beliefs, and ingrained life scripts that keep us stuck in unhealthy cycles.

Survivors of Complex Trauma: For those who’ve experienced ongoing abuse, neglect, or trauma that has left lasting emotional scars, this programme offers a deep healing space to reclaim your sense of self and begin living with intention and purpose.

Single-Incident Trauma Survivors: If you’ve suffered a single, life-changing traumatic event such as an accident, assault, or natural disaster, we’ll work together to release the grip this trauma has on you, empowering you to move forward with strength.

Anyone Feeling Disconnected or Numb: Trauma and loss can strip away your sense of self, leaving you feeling disconnected from who you are or numb to life’s joys. This programme will help guide you to reconnect with your core essence and start living a life of safety and joy.

Why Trauma Healing Needs to Happen at the Core

Many women find that traditional trauma therapy doesn’t always lead to lasting relief. Why? Because the nervous system remains dysregulated, and true healing cannot happen when the body is still in a state of fight, flight, or freeze. Trauma is stored not just in the mind but in the very core of our being—in the nervous system and the soul

(if this concept resonates for you).

Shamanic Scripting combines the science of nervous system regulation with deep soul-level healing. By using ancient shamanic practices alongside evidence-based therapeutic techniques, we help you address trauma at its roots, ensuring the healing is integrated into every layer of your being. Only by healing at this deep level can true and lasting change occur.

How Does This Approach Relate to Standard

Therapy & Research?

In the Shamanic Scripting programme, there’s a deep integration of Jungian approaches and shamanic practices, as both traditions explore the layers of the unconscious mind and offer profound pathways for healing. Carl Jung’s work delves into the realms of the psyche through concepts like the collective unconscious, archetypes, and shadow work, which align closely with shamanic beliefs and practices. Both frameworks seek to heal by reconnecting us to lost or forgotten parts of ourselves, allowing for transformation at a soul level.

1.The Collective Unconscious and Shamanic Journeys:
Jung believed in the collective unconscious, a shared reservoir of human experience and knowledge that transcends the individual. This is similar to the shamanic worldview, where spiritual realms contain ancestral wisdom, universal truths, and guidance from spirit guides or power animals. When you embark on a shamanic journey, you’re essentially accessing this collective unconscious, gaining insight not just into your personal life, but into deeper, universal patterns. Both Jungian and shamanic approaches involve connecting with these archetypal forces to bring back wisdom that can heal and guide your life.

In Shamanic Scripting, this translates to practices where you journey to the gateway of your inner world, meeting spirit guides or animals that represent deeper parts of your unconscious. These encounters are not only symbolic; they provide healing messages that, when interpreted, can transform how you view your life and your path forward, just as accessing the collective unconscious does in Jungian therapy.

 2. Archetypes and Shamanic Symbols:
Jung’s archetypes are universal symbols, characters, or themes that exist within the collective unconscious and appear in dreams, myths, and stories. Shamanic practices also use symbols and archetypal imagery, often in the form of totem animals, elemental spirits, or the Earth and Sky as divine forces. When working with these symbols in a shamanic practice, you are accessing powerful archetypes that reveal essential truths about your inner landscape.

For example, when you connect with a personal power animal or an archetypal figure during a shamanic journey, you're tapping into deep, unconscious wisdom that mirrors Jung's idea of archetypes like the The Lover, The Mother, or the Sage. These encounters help us explore the roles we play in our lives and the energies we are meant to embody. In the programme, we use these symbols to help you understand and embrace different aspects of your psyche, facilitating healing through archetypal integration.

3. Shadow Work and Soul Retrieval:
One of Jung’s most influential ideas is shadow work, the process of uncovering and integrating the parts of ourselves that we’ve suppressed, ignored, or deemed unacceptable. These are often aspects of the unconscious mind that we are unaware of but that influence our behaviours, emotions, and decisions. Similarly, shamanic soul or power retrieval involves finding and reclaiming lost or fragmented parts of the self and the soul.  These are those pieces of ourselves that have been disconnected due to trauma, pain, or life challenges.

In shamanic practice, the retrieval of these soul or power fragments is akin to integrating the shadow in Jungian therapy. Both processes involve acknowledging and healing the parts of ourselves that have been left behind or denied, bringing them back into consciousness. In Shamanic Scripting, shadow work is guided by both Jungian principles and shamanic rituals, helping you confront and embrace the parts of yourself that need healing. By doing so, you gain wholeness, self-compassion, and a deeper sense of empowerment.

 4. Individuation and Spiritual Awakening:
Jung believed that the ultimate goal of psychotherapy was individuation—the process of becoming the most authentic version of self by integrating all aspects of the psyche. Shamanism, too, seeks this kind of wholeness, often framed as a spiritual awakening or reconnecting with your soul’s purpose. Both practices view healing as a journey towards self-realisation and alignment with the deeper truth of who you are.

These practices are designed to help you reconnect to the core of who you are, aligning with your higher self and integrating all aspects of your being—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. This process helps you not only recover from trauma but also emerge as a more empowered, self-aware individual who is in touch with your soul’s path.

 5. Dreamwork and Shamanic Visions:
Both Jungian therapy and shamanic practice place significant importance on dreams and visions. For Jung, dreams were a direct path to the unconscious, revealing insights through symbols, archetypes, and personal reflections. In shamanism, visions experienced during journeys or in altered states of consciousness are similarly meaningful, often seen as messages from the spirit world or from the soul.

In Shamanic scripting, dreamwork is an important part of the process. By exploring both your nightly dreams and the visions that arise during shamanic journeys, you begin to decode the messages from your unconscious mind. These insights help you understand the underlying causes of your pain, trauma, and emotional challenges, allowing you to work through them in a deeper, more transformative way.

 6. Active Imagination and Shamanic Visualisation:
Jung developed the technique of active imagination, where the individual engages with images and figures from their unconscious in a dialogue, allowing for deeper self-exploration and healing. Shamanic visualisation practices, such as journeying to meet spirit guides or creating an inner safe space, mirror this process by inviting you to interact with the symbolic representations of your psyche.

In Shamanic Scripting, these visualisations are woven into the healing process. For example, we might use active imagination to connect with your power animal or spirit guide and explore the messages they have for you. These dialogues between conscious and unconscious parts of yourself provide insight, healing, and a deeper connection to your inner world, blending Jungian and shamanic practices seamlessly.

The Integration of Jungian Theory and Shamanic Practice

Both Jungian therapy and shamanic practice aim to heal the soul by diving deep into the unconscious mind, reconnecting with lost parts of the self, and integrating these aspects into a cohesive, empowered whole. In shamanic scripting we blend these powerful traditions to create a healing journey that is deeply transformative, allowing you to heal trauma at its core, reconnect with your true essence, and build a life that aligns with your soul’s purpose.

By drawing on Jungian concepts like archetypes, shadow work, and individuation, alongside shamanic rituals and journeys, this programme offers a holistic path toward healing and self-realisation. Whether you are working through past trauma, seeking spiritual growth, or looking to reconnect with your soul’s blueprint, this integration of Jungian psychology and shamanism offers a powerful framework for change.

What is the link with other therapeutic approaches that will be integrated in this programme?

This is a holistic trauma and loss recovery programme.  Each modern therapeutic approach such as Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Therapy (NT), Schema Therapy (ST), Transactional Analysis (TA), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, and Polyvagal Theory (focus on the functioning of the nervous system)—can be linked to techniques used in shamanic practice.

Shamanism, with its ancient roots, offers deep, symbolic healing that aligns well with modern neuropsychological insights and therapeutic methods. Here’s how each approach connects to shamanic healing techniques and this programme integrates all approaches:

 1. EMDR and Shamanic Healing Journeys
EMDR works by reprocessing traumatic memories through bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping), allowing the brain to integrate traumatic experiences whilst releasing the emotional charge.

Link to Shamanism: In shamanic journeys, you enter an altered state of consciousness, often induced by drumming or rhythmic movement, which can mirror the bilateral stimulation of EMDR. The journey allows you to revisit traumatic events in a safe, guided manner, much like EMDR, to process them and reframe the experience. Both approaches use altered states of awareness to access and resolve deep emotional trauma, facilitating healing at a subconscious level.

2. Narrative Therapy and Shamanic Storytelling
Narrative Therapy focuses on helping individuals reshape the stories they tell about themselves, turning disempowering narratives into ones that foster resilience and healing. Shamanic practices have always emphasised the importance of storytelling in healing.

Link to Shamanism: Shamanic rituals often involve creating or retelling stories that symbolically represent an individual’s life journey, struggles, and triumphs. These stories help make sense of traumatic experiences and transform them into wisdom. In both Narrative Therapy and shamanic practice, you are guided to become the author of your own story, reframing past events in ways that empower rather than limit you.

 3. Schema Therapy and Shamanic Soul Retrieval
Schema Therapy addresses deeply ingrained cognitive and emotional patterns that develop from early experiences, including trauma. These patterns (or schemas) often lead to negative beliefs about the self. Shamanic soul retrieval addresses similar patterns of fragmentation.

Link to Shamanism: In shamanic practice, it is believed that parts of the soul may become “lost” or fragmented due to trauma. Soul retrieval rituals aim to reintegrate these lost parts, much like Schema Therapy seeks to identify and transform maladaptive schemas. Both approaches focus on healing early wounds by recovering and integrating lost aspects of the self, thereby transforming negative patterns into healthy, adaptive ones.

4. Transactional Analysis (TA) and Shamanic Life Script Rewriting
Transactional Analysis explores the concept of life scripts—unconscious patterns that shape behaviour and decision-making based on early experiences. TA works to rewrite these life scripts to allow for healthier choices. In shamanic traditions, rituals often serve the same purpose.

Link to Shamanism: Shamanic rituals, especially initiation ceremonies or personal healing journeys, often involve symbolic death and rebirth, which represents the rewriting of one’s life script. These rituals allow individuals to let go of old, limiting narratives (scripts) and embrace new, empowered ones. In both shamanism and TA, healing involves identifying negative life patterns and transforming them into narratives that promote growth, healing, and freedom from past trauma.

 5. Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Shamanic Integration of the Self
Internal Family Systems (IFS) posits that the mind is composed of different “parts,” some of which protect vulnerable, wounded aspects of the self. Healing involves acknowledging and integrating these parts into a harmonious system. Shamanism also focuses on retrieving and integrating fragmented parts of the soul or psyche.

Link to Shamanism: In shamanic soul retrieval, the shaman works to bring back lost or fragmented parts of the soul, much like IFS seeks to integrate different parts of the self. Both approaches acknowledge that trauma causes fragmentation, and healing requires these parts to be reintegrated into a cohesive whole. In shamanism, the individual may symbolically “meet” these lost parts in a journey, much like in IFS where different parts are recognised and brought into harmony with the Self.

6. Somatic Experiencing and Shamanic Body-Based Practices
Somatic Experiencing focuses on releasing trauma stored in the body by working with physical sensations and gradually discharging trapped survival energy. Shamanism has long involved body-based healing rituals that work with the physical manifestations of trauma.

Link to Shamanism: Shamanic practices like drumming, dancing, breathwork, and chanting are all body-based methods that help release blocked energy and restore balance in the body. These techniques stimulate the nervous system, helping to discharge the physical remnants of trauma, similar to Somatic Experiencing. Both approaches recognise that trauma is stored in the body and emphasise healing through physical expression and movement.

 7. Polyvagal Theory and Vagal Toning in Shamanic Rituals
Polyvagal Theory focuses on the role of the vagus nerve (10th cranial nerve) in regulating the autonomic nervous system, shifting between states of safety and survival. Practices that improve vagal tone help regulate the nervous system, fostering a sense of calm and safety. Shamanic rituals naturally engage vagal toning through sound, movement, and breath.

Link to Shamanism: Shamanic rituals often involve drumming, chanting, and rhythmic movement, all of which stimulate the vagus nerve and improve vagal tone. These practices help regulate the autonomic nervous system, promoting a shift from survival states (fight/flight/freeze) to social engagement and safety. Like Polyvagal Theory, shamanic practices aim to create a sense of safety and connection, helping you move from states of trauma-induced hypervigilance into a calm, regulated state.

Shamanic practices and modern therapeutic approaches, share profound similarities in their healing goals and methods. Both aim to transform trauma by accessing deeper layers of the psyche, body, and spirit, and both use techniques that facilitate integration and restoration.

By integrating healing at a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level we can create what I term a

"Quantum Rewrite".

You can read more about this in my medium article below.

The Quantum Rewrite: Why You Can’t Heal in Pieces

What this approach is doing

Healing the Narrative: Shamanic storytelling aligns with Narrative Therapy and TA’s life script rewriting, allowing you to reshape your trauma story into one of empowerment.

Retrieving and Reintegrating the Self: Soul retrieval in shamanism echoes the goals of Schema Therapy, IFS, and EMDR—bringing back fragmented parts of the self and healing old wounds.

Engaging the Body: Shamanic body-based rituals like drumming, dancing, and chanting mirror Somatic Experiencing and Polyvagal Theory’s emphasis on releasing trauma stored in the body and regulating the nervous system.

By blending ancient wisdom with modern psychology, you gain access to a comprehensive healing process that addresses trauma from all angles: mind, body, and soul—providing a deep, lasting sense of wholeness and transformation.

The blend of approaches allows us to work deeply at both the conscious and unconscious levels to promote profound healing. It is a group-based programme designed to complement, not replace, individual therapy. While it offers a deeply supportive environment for growth and healing, it may not be suitable for those in an actively destabilised mental state, as they may need more individualised care and stabilisation before engaging in group work.
